Magic in the Making: Sophia Teves of SOPH

Meet Sophia Teves — the creative behind SOPH, a size-inclusive boutique tucked inside Kilburn Mills in New Bedford.

From the moment you meet her, you can feel it — the passion, the openness, the spark. She’s driven and intentional, yet there’s an ease to her that feels freeing. Sophia moves through life with curiosity and courage, the kind that says let’s just do it — and somehow, it always comes together with heart.

She’s the kind of woman who can’t be defined by one title. Beyond owning SOPH, she’s a yoga instructor, a social media manager, and a lifelong learner — a creative who pours her energy into every part of what she does. There’s a fearlessness in the way she follows her ideas, always willing to explore something new and grow from the experience.

In March of 2024, Sophia opened SOPH — a boutique built from the belief that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and celebrated in the body they’re in. Offering sizes S through 3XL, her goal was to create something that didn’t exist when she was growing up: a place where shopping feels inclusive, uplifting, and personal.

“I opened a S–3XL clothing boutique in March of 2024 with the goal of giving everyone an equal shopping opportunity — something that lacked in the area and something I didn’t experience growing up.”

That intention is felt the moment you step inside. SOPH isn’t just a store — it’s an experience. The kind of place where you’re greeted with genuine warmth, where you can explore, connect, and feel completely at ease.

“I never was able to shop in person at the stores my friends did growing up because of my body. That is something I wanted to change — for myself and for the future generation.”

Sophia has created more than racks of clothing. She’s created a space that feels like community — a hub for events, conversation, and connection. Her hope is that every person who walks through her doors leaves feeling seen, beautiful, and understood.

“I hope they walk in feeling safe and knowing they can find their style in the body they are in — with no change.”

Behind that easy, welcoming energy, there’s an immense amount of work and care. Running a business requires wearing a dozen hats — from buying to admin to the emotional labor of showing up for others — and Sophia does it with grace.

“While it’s so much fun, there’s a lot we don’t show, which has taught me to give a special kind of grace when visiting or supporting other small businesses.”

But what truly sets her apart is her perspective — one that was shaped by both love and loss.

When Sophia’s dad unexpectedly passed away in 2022, her world shifted. Through grief came clarity — a deeper understanding of what matters, and a commitment to live fully, love deeply, and not hold back.

“Throughout my grief journey, I’ve been given a new perspective — on life, people, my family, and what I put energy toward. I’ve shifted my focus while also allowing myself to let loose when it counts, because life is truly so, so short.”

That balance — the willingness to hold both depth and lightness — shows up in everything she touches. When asked what she believes gives her an edge in the way she shows up and connects with people, she shared this:

“I’d like to think — and hope — that people leave conversations with me with a smile, a laugh, or a new perspective.”

Even on hard days, she finds her grounding in movement, self-talk, and the people who remind her of who she is.

“Everything is temporary — the good, the bad, the heavy. The way you talk to yourself is everything.”

And it’s that steady optimism, that ability to find meaning in the smallest moments, that gives her impact so much weight.

“I believe in the butterfly effect — that one little thing can change someone’s whole experience through their day. If I can make someone’s day better or give them a new perspective on life or even their self-confidence, then I’ve done my job.”

Sophia carries herself with such grace — even when things aren’t ideal. She leads with love, gives others grace where it counts, and continues to show up as the best version of herself, no matter what life brings.

“I know that I lead with love, I give others grace (where it counts lol), and I ultimately am consistently trying to be the best version of myself.”

Through SOPH, she’s redefining what it means to create something meaningful — proving that fashion can be inclusive, community-driven, and full of heart.
